I recently returned from the all-inclusive, family-friendly Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres resort in Mexico, and I’m happy to report that I really enjoyed my stay!

If you’re considering this resort for your wedding, here’s what you need to know based on my firsthand experience as a destination wedding travel specialist.

Resort Layout: Two Sections

The resort is split into two sections: the family-friendly side (on the left in the photo above) and the adults-only Elegance Club section (on the right in the photo above). Only guests staying in Elegance Club level rooms have access to the adults-only side, but all adults can enjoy the family-friendly section.

There are a total of 570 rooms with about 70% of them being Elegance Club rooms, making this an excellent option for wedding groups with mostly adults but a few children in the mix. While this resort is technically family-friendly, I would describe it as being more adults-oriented since so many of the rooms are adults-only and there isn't a water park on property.

In addition to a room in an adults-only building, Elegance Club guests have exclusive access to the following adults-only amenities: pools, beach area, bars, and two VIP adults-only lounges that face the ocean.

The resort is laid out very well and I found it really easy to navigate—no need for golf carts or shuttles to get around here. I would say it only takes about five minutes to walk to any area of the resort, but for any guests with mobility concerns, wheelchairs and/or scooters can be rented for an additional cost.

NOTE: A new Majestic Mirage resort is currently being built next to the family-friendly section side, with an expected opening date in fall 2025. While the construction is ongoing, noise is generally minimal and not noticeable unless your room directly faces the site.

Check-In & First Impressions

My check-in process was smooth and easy, with just a short wait. As an Elegance Club guest, I was taken to a private lounge where snacks and drinks were available—including the option to add champagne to the resort’s signature mango-strawberry welcome drink. Yum!

The little details, like the delicious cookies and comfortable air-conditioned lounge setting, made for a great start to my stay.

And, one of my favorite things about this resort is that there are no timeshare sales. Yep, you read that right—no pushy salespeople, no pressure, and no need to dodge unwanted pitches. If you've ever stayed at a resort where you're constantly being approached to attend a sales presentation, you’ll really appreciate being able to fully relax here.

Rooms: Spacious & Well-Appointed

I stayed in an Elegance Club Junior Suite (room # 3316 in building 3 on the 3rd floor). You can click here to check out a reel I posted on Instagram of my room.

This is the entry-level room type in the adults-only Elegance Club section and includes either a king bed or two double beds, accommodating up to two adults.

The decor of the rooms at Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres features modern wood tones and teal accents, creating a light, airy feel. At 625 square feet, my room felt very spacious and included a sitting area with a couch plus a high-top counter with two stools.

My balcony was a good size and had an outdoor jacuzzi, a day bed, and a small dining table with two chairs. The view from my room overlooked the pools below and I was lucky enough to have a partial view of the ocean when I looked to the right (not all of these rooms have ocean views, so that’s important to keep in mind).

Elegance Club rooms come with butler service, which is essentially like having a personal concierge. My butler was attentive, sent me daily activity schedules, and helped me make dinner reservations (we communicated via the Wave app that he helped me get set up after check-in).

NOTE: You can turn your balcony/patio light off by holding down the light switch for five seconds (otherwise, it will stay on until midnight).

My bathroom had double sinks with plenty of counter space, a rainfall showerhead, a handheld nozzle, and a separate soaking tub. The only small drawbacks about my room were limited drawer space and a closet that wasn’t quite tall enough for longer dresses. I also would’ve liked the ceiling fan to be positioned directly above the bed, but these are minor details.

Minibar included:

  • Bottled water, Coke, Sprite, Fanta, juice

  • Dos Equis & Coors Light (this is unique at an all-inclusive resort as most only have local domestic beers)

  • Hershey’s Cookies ‘N’ Creme candy bars, small bag of chips

  • Elegance Club perks: a bottle of sparkling wine and a bottle of premium alcohol

Some thoughtful extras included a garment steamer, robe and slippers, a stylish beach bag (for Elegance Club guests only), and the super convenient “Magic Box” for room service deliveries (and returning your dishes). And for coffee lovers (which I’m not), you’ll be happy to know that there is a Nespresso Machine in the room.

NOTE: Most rooms in the adults-only section accommodate up to a max of two adults, while many rooms in the family-friendly section can have up to four guests. Since the resort doesn't offer connecting rooms, families with five or more people will need to book two separate rooms.

The Beach: Soft Sand & Gorgeous Views

The beach here is a highlight! The sand is incredibly soft, and you can walk a long way in either direction. Guests can relax under palapas for some shade and there are also bali beds available on a first-come basis.

The water was clear and calm, making it great for swimming. The resort offers complimentary water sports like kayaking and paddleboarding, with additional activities like jet skiing and parasailing available for a fee through vendors on the beach.

I visited in September, which can be peak season for sargassum (seaweed), but there was very little of it, and what did wash up was cleaned by staff each morning.

NOTE: There is not a sargassum barrier in the water so you get uninterrupted ocean views.

Pools: Lots of Options

Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres doesn’t have one massive main pool like some resorts; instead, it has lots of smaller pools spread throughout the property. This could be considered a positive or a negative, depending on your personal preference.

There is a two-tiered main pool area in the family-friendly section and one main pool in the adults-only section, along with several long, wide swim-up pool areas that all guests can enjoy.

Having multiple pools like this creates a nice balance—you can find a pool with a lively atmosphere with music and pool games (including a fun foam party!), but also plenty of quiet spots to relax by the pool as well.

Dining & Drinks

The resort has seven dining options featuring a variety of cuisines including Italian, Asian, and Mexican. Guests with gluten-free dietary needs or other food allergies can rely on the attentive food concierge team, which has an excellent reputation for handling special requests with care.

For an all-inclusive, I found the food to be above average. Some of my favorites included:

  • Mariachi Loco: Great chips & guacamole, ceviche tostadas, and churros with ice cream.

  • Kabuki: Loved the spring rolls and Spicy Ebi sushi rolls.

  • Beach Grill: The burgers were a great lunch option.

  • Room Service: The Mexican mollete for breakfast was delicious!

The breakfast buffet was massive, offering just about anything you could think of, including two egg stations and a smoothie bar. There was even a hosted bloody mary bar station with multiple vodka options to choose from, which was the first time I've seen that concept—my husband would fall in love with this resort for that feature alone!

Drinks were solid across the resort, but a few of my favorites were:

  • Margarita with Grand Marnier at Mariachi Loco.

  • Mezcal Paloma at the Lower Lobby Bar.

  • Dirty Monkeys from any of the bars (so good!).

Service & Entertainment

The staff were friendly and attentive throughout the resort, whether at the restaurants, pool, or beach. There are multiple swim-up bars, a beach bar, a piano bar, and a gorgeous lower lobby bar where the bartenders make top-notch cocktails.

For evening entertainment, there’s a nightly show in the open-air theater—the Queen tribute show was especially fun! They have a weekly white party (specific night varies) where it's optional for guests to dress in all white. I also loved the Mexican fiesta night in the outdoor plaza, which featured traditional decorations, so many food stations, live music, and a dance performance.

Legends Sports Bar is a great spot to catch a game, play some pool, or do some late-night dancing. And if you get hungry, McJestic—the resort’s fast-food restaurant—is right next door and open late (because sometimes you just need some fries at 1 AM!).

NOTE: You can click here to check out the online resort "app" to see the daily schedule of activities and entertainment, the resort map, and the restaurant and bar menus.

 Other Notes

  • Spa & Beachside Massages: The on-site spa is lovely, but I opted for a one-hour beach massage at Big Mama’s, which is just down the beach to the right when you’re looking at the water. It was $80 and worth every penny—just remember to bring cash.

  • Wristbands as Room Keys: No flimsy plastic bands here! The wristbands double as your room key and are much more "stylish" than typical resort wristbands.

  • No Towel Cards (thank you!): Towels were always readily available whenever I wanted one, which is a small but appreciated convenience.

  • Kids Club: While there’s no water park, there is a kids’ club for ages 4-12 and a teen club for ages 13-17 with video games, foosball, and pool tables.

  • 24-hour gym with cardio & weight machines, plus a Pilates/spinning room.

  • The resort looks really pretty at night with beautiful lighting and lush greenery.

Final Thoughts About My Stay

Like I always say, no resort is completely perfect. There are always little things that may not be the best fit for everyone. Here are a few potential downsides:

  • The doors don’t have deadbolts, but they do have a Do Not Disturb button.

  • The open-concept bathroom means that stepping out of the shower puts you in a partially visible area—something to consider if privacy is important to you.

  • The main adults-only pool is on the smaller side, so loungers nearby can be limited, but there are plenty by the swim-up pools.

Overall, Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres really impressed me. The resort is stunning, easy to navigate, and offers a great balance of relaxation and entertainment. If you’re looking for a wedding resort that delivers a beautiful setting, excellent service, and solid food and drinks, this one is definitely worth considering!
